Chromesthetic Colour Psychology
Project type
Painting
Date
May 2022
Location
Liverpool
In the early stages of my exploration into Chromesthesia, I explored the intersection of colour psychology, and music through a series of pour paintings.
These works are created by listening to specific songs and intuitively selecting colours that I felt resonated with the sound, mixing acrylic paint with pouring mediums to capture the energy and emotion of the music. While initially an experimental method, these paintings became artworks in their own right, each reflecting not only my creative process but also an interpretation of human psychology through colour.
This body of work was informed by my long-standing interest in colour psychology and my research into Chromesthesia, a neurological condition where sound involuntarily triggers colour perception. Over time, these experiments developed into digital animations and projections, translating static imagery into immersive, moving works.
Both colour and music profoundly affect psychological states, and this early practice marked the beginnings of my ongoing artistic inquiry into the connections between sensory perception, emotion, and immersive experience.
These works were later exhibited as part of the Sound and Vision exhibition.
