Chromaflow presents - The Chroma Sensorium!

ChromaFlow is an interdisciplinary art practice that transforms sound into a living visual experience using ferrofluids, magnetic liquids that respond in real time to the vibrations of live music. At its centre is The ChromaSensorium, a bespoke, portable ferrofluid display system and functions as both a self-contained artwork and an interactive lab tool, enabling ferrofluids to respond dynamically to sound frequencies.

High-definition footage of the box in action is projected at large scale with layered binaural sound, creating immersive installations or live performance backdrops. The ChromaSensorium bridges hands-on experiment with public exhibition, a scalable system that can be shown in intimate gallery spaces or expanded into multi-projector, immersive environments.

The project began as a collaboration with a Chromesthete, someone who perceives sound as colour and shapes due to the neurological condition Chromesthesia. This dialogue led to the creation of a shared visual language, extending beyond representation to co-creation. The ChromaSensorium embodies this approach: a tool that makes perceptual difference tangible, allowing audiences to “see sound” in real time.

By combining art, health, physics, and technology, the project creates a space where neurodiverse experience becomes visible and sharable, while also offering therapeutic potential through its multisensory form.
